Understanding White Balance in Photography

Have you ever wondered why your subjects appear yellow when photographed indoors? Or why does your camera's flash make things seem blue? Understanding the notion of white balance and how it works is critical in digital photography since wrongly adjusting it can spoil a shot by adding all kinds of unwanted colour casts and making skin tones seem extremely unnatural. Most essential photography terms – part 2

In the previous issue we did an article on most essential photography terms. Continuing the same, we have the Part 2 for our readers. Photography terminologies are many and may be quite challenging for beginner photographers to grasp. However, understanding the photography phrases used to explain crucial processes can allow you to appreciate photography much more. Some technical jargon is simply that: jargon. Listening to two photographers converse makes it appear as though they are speaking a foreign language. Outside of photography, all of the technical words have little or no relevance. You will struggle to master photography, much alone have an informed discourse about it, until you understand at least the most basic of these photographic words. The more you practise, the easier it becomes, just like anything else you learn. The more you utilise photographic words and jargon, the faster they will become second nature to you.

Tracing Faces

There are so many amazing On The Horizon interviews in Asian Photography Magazine, but we want to learn more about the photographers and the story behind their photos. We interviewed a skilled photographer in this issue to learn more about enjoying life via a lens. Waleed Shabir is the focus of this month’s interview. He is a photographer who takes more than simply photographs. His photographs are extremely intimate and, most importantly, respectful to the people and feelings that inspired him. Waleed discusses how he approaches capturing a stranger’s emotion, the creative linage of still photography, unique portrait photography, and how he started into street photography in this interview.
