Cops claim they made arrest to thwart tragedy

SUSPECTED Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann was just hours away from slaughtering his 11th victim — another pretty young prostitute — when New York police took him off the street, sources close to the investigation say.

Once cops got Heuermann’s DNA from a pizza and linked him to the trail of bodies strewn across the beach on New York’s Long Island, lawmen began monitoring the hulking 6-foot-5, 270-pound monster’s every move.

After worried shrinks analyzed his increasingly bizarre behavior, sick internet searches and unique patterns used to lure an unsuspecting hooker, they sounded the alarm that the kill-crazy fiend was ready to strike again, sources claim!

The 59-year-old commercial architect had to be arrested immediately — or another young hooker was toast, say sources.
