LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CORONATION!

The Coronation Service of King Charles III will take place on the morning of Saturday, 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey, with the 74-year-old becoming the oldest person to be crowned in British history. Ahead of the big day, King Charles III will reportedly meet with the Prince and Princess of Wales to discuss the role that his grandson Prince George will play in the ceremony.

It has been reported that the future King is slated to have a “significant” role in the Coronation of his grandfather. The move would be a break from Royal tradition, in which the young heirs typically watch the ceremony, but play no part in it. King Charles did not play a role in the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, and likewise, the Queen only watched during the Coronation of her father, King George VI.

The Coronation is a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry. Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession.’

Buckingham Palace has revealed the music at His Majesty The King’s Coronation will include a new Coronation Anthem by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and eleven other pieces personally commissioned by King Charles III, from world-renowned British composers.

Lloyd Webber said his anthem, which is scored for the Westminster Abbey choir and organ, and the ceremonial brass and orchestra, includes words from Psalm 98. “I hope my anthem reflects this joyful occasion,” he added.

There will be solo performances from bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, soprano Pretty Yende and baritone, Roderick Williams, with a special Coronation orchestra conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano.
