Unwrap these holidays for the festive season

We get it – planning a getaway during the festive season can be tough. One minute it’s August and you’re comparing flight prices; the next, it’s November and you’re yet to book a thing!

While you might think you’ve missed the boat/train/plane for your Christmas holiday getaway, here are five trips you can still take.

TAKE THE SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE COASTAL ROUTE, NSW AND VIC

Whether driving from Sydney or Melbourne, the coastal route should be on everyone’s bucket list, and the good news is there is an abundance of roadside motels with vacancy signs still up over the holidays – just be sure to book ahead. Spread the drive over a week, taking in the small town south of Nowra known as Culburra Beach to go for a refreshing swim and then hit the road towards Batemans Bay. Along the way you’ll see some of the best beaches and seaside towns in Australia. Stop off for some fresh oysters in Pambula, feed sea eagles in Mallacoota and explore the wildlife in Croajingolong National Park. Walk along the sweeping expanse of Ninety Mile Beach and to the southernmost tip of Australia’s mainland in Wilsons Promontory National Park. On Phillip Island, meet up with little penguins before arriving in the metropolis of Melbourne.
