Five minutes with ...ADRIAN SCARBOROUGH

Two-time Olivier Award winner Adrian Scarborough thrived in Oscar-winning films such as Gosford Park and beloved TV shows like Gavin & Stacey, but he captured the zeitgeist in 2019 with a delicious turn as Raymond, an assassin’s assassin, in Killing Eve. Now 55, he has hit a new peak with the role of quirky DI Max Arnold on The Chelsea Detective. WHO dug out the notepad for a quick interrogation.

Is it a rite of passage for British actors to star in a crime series?

I think it is a rite of passage! I don’t know why British television sort of has that about it, but it so does. I suppose I just grew up, essentially, with an awful lot of detective drama as a child, and I was a huge fan of Columbo. It never failed to please me.
