In fact, ever since they had moved to southern India, their easy-flowing life had gone for a toss! Had they known their move to the Indian Ocean would come at the cost of their peace, they wouldn’t have chosen this spot!
Atasi and her species were always at risk. In fact, very few of them now existed in the wild. Their bright blue colour made them every fisherman’s target. A few years ago, almost all of Atasi’s family was captured by fishermen and then auctioned off to aquariums across the world. Atasi was completely heartbroken and lost. She roamed all across the Red Sea and the Pacific Ocean looking for peace, but nothing made sense. Then she stumbled upon Alexander, literally stumbled.
Atasi hadn’t eaten in a while and when she saw her favourite purple-coloured sea urchin stuck under a rock at the bottom of the sea, her stomach fluttered with excitement! She had to get it. She slowly crept towards it, making sure not to make any sudden movements. But just as she was about to reach it, Alexander swam in front of her and disappeared into the darkness, a trail of fishing net following him. In that flash of a second, the sea urchin saw Atasi with her mouth open, ready to grab him! He was quick to realise he had to run if he wanted to live. Not being a mind-reader, Atasi dashed in the direction of the sea urchin, only to get whipped on her nose by the fleeing creature and then by the net that was still stuck to Alexander.
“Well, that’s that! am the saddest Napoleon wrasse in the Red Sea,” Atasi announced to no one in particular. Just then, there was a ripple in the water behind her. She turned back to see Alexander zooming past yet again with the fishing net still stuck to him. Hey, you hold on! Why are you carrying that net all over the sea? Some poor fish will get caught in it! Is that your way of finding food?” Atasi called out.
