On 7 July 2005, London was left devastated by three explosions on the Underground near Aldgate, Edgware Road and Russell Square stations, and one on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square.
The terror attacks, the worst to have taken place in a UK city and the first suicide bombings on English soil, claimed the lives of 52 people, including 24-year-old Jenny Nicholson, who died at Edgware Road, and injured hundreds more.
Now, Jenny’s mother Julie is among those recounting their harrowing stories in BBC2’s four-part docuseries 7/7: The London Bombings, which, nearly 20 years on, follows the events of that day and its aftermath through the eyes of those impacted, from the bereaved and survivors to the emergency services.
‘This documentary looks at the whole landscape of 7/7,’ says Julie, in an exclusive interview with TV Times. ‘But 20 years doesn’t feel any different to one year – except we’ve had more years to get used to grief and to keep the precious memory of a beloved family member alive.’
