Most of us know of Shangri-La Hotel, named after the fictional utopia in Tibet's Kunlun Mountains imagined by English author James Hilton.
What we may not know is that Shangri-La Singapore is the apotheosis of the Shangri-La empire headquartered in Hong Kong SAR. Located at Orange Grove Road, just minutes from the bustling Orchard Road - home to global fashion brands, world-famous cuisine and landmark attractions the luxury accommodation is the go-to for discerning travellers, high-echelon professionals and affluent globetrotters.
THE ACCOMMODATIONS
Entering the Tower Wing, we were greeted by Tree Canopy, a breathtaking installation by Japanese designer Hirotoshi Sawada, composed of cascading stylised leaves. Its ethereal beauty seems to announce the luxury to be found within the accommodations - 503 guestrooms and suites - that have been refurbished to meet the needs of sophisticated travellers. Upgrading work has been carried out across the five-star hotel's Deluxe Rooms, Horizon Club Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, Family-Themed Suites, One-Bedroom Suites and the Grand Suite. We were excited to find our Deluxe Room elegant and comfortable as can be, furnished with a transparent cabinet with automatic motion sensor activation, a vanity table, a study desk positioned for one to enjoy a view of the Singapore skyline, and a lacquered cabinet stocked with treats for caffeine lovers. The bathroom, to our delight, was replete with toiletries and L'Occitane bath amenities.
