AERO CLUB OF SOUTH AFRICA AWARDS 2022
African Pilot|January 2023
Due to my timeshare commitment at Mabula at this time of the year, I was not in a position to attend the AeCSA awards on Saturday 26 November. Like last year the awards ceremony was held at Rand airport in the beautifully decorated Springbok Flying Safaris hangar belonging to Captain Flippie Vermeulen and his family.

AERO CLUB OF SOUTH AFRICA AWARDS 2022

The annual awards ceremony is a formal event where aviators who have performed significant achievements throughout the year are recognised by their peers. The awards started promptly at 13h30 and David le Roux was the master of ceremonies. After the invited guests were recognised and starters were completed, Rob Jonkers, Chairman of AeCSA addressed the gathering.

SASCOC Protea Colours and Special Acknowledgements

The South African Olympics Committee (SASCOC) only acknowledges participating competitors and their team managers by awarding them Protea colours. Yet many sports require the support of others for competitions to take place. Aero Club acknowledges these whose dedication, commitment and sacrifice is equal to that of the competitors and as necessary by awarding their efforts with Special Acknowledgement Certificates.

SOARING SOCIETY OF SOUTH AFRICA (SSSA)

Senior Protea Colours awarded to Uys Jonker, Jason Adriaan, Oscar Goudriaan, Dolf Pretorius, Nico Le Roux, Attie Jonker and Riaan Denner for participating in the 37th FAI World Gliding Championships from 23 July to 6 August 2022 in Szeged, Hungary.

Junior Protea Colours awarded to Michael Tiffen, Phillip Jonker, Henry Richard Daly and William Richard Daly for participating in the 12th Junior World Gliding Championships, held from 30 July to 13 August 2022 in Tabor, Czech Republic.

PARACHUTE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA (PASA) (not in attendance)

Special Acknowledgement goes to Naomi Kotzee for her participation in the 2022 Woman's Vertical World Record and the 2022 Vertical World Record in Chicago, USA on 22 August and 20 November 2022, respectively.

Another Special Acknowledgement goes to Christopher Teague for participating in the World Games from 7 to 17 July 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama USA.

Maputo airshow 2024 What a treat!

On Sunday 16 June Christine and I returned from attending the Maputo airshow and what a fantastic experience this was not only for estimated 15 000 spectators, but also the members of the media present. As always Brian Emmenis and his team were on top form with a great selection of music. The grand finale with the Puma Energy Flying Lions T6 Harvards was simply beautiful and I saw several spectators with tears in their eyes as they expressed their happiness for the airshow.
