WHILE RECENTLY BEATING THE BENDS
ON SOME OF the most beautiful Alpine mountain passes, in the CLE 450 Coupé (see the October 2024 issue), I often wondered how this road trip would have felt with the top down. Feeling the temperature drop while roaring up a mountain, smelling the meadows, pine trees and cow dung (well, maybe not so much the cow dung) and enjoying the wind in my hair.
I love driving with the top down. But the convertible kind of vehicle seems to be on the way out.
Dwindling worldwide convertible sales has seen many manufacturers drop their tops. But the inventor of the automobile, with an almost century-old heritage of beautiful cabriolets, is still paying homage to alfresco motoring.
