KALA SAMMAN SCHEME A Helping Hand to the Brilliant Artists of Goa

The 'Kala Samman Scheme' is an initiative by the Department of Art and Culture of the Government of Goa, launched in 2016 and currently facilitated by Hon'ble Minister Govind Gaude.

This scheme represents the State's commitment to preserving Goa's rich cultural heritage and significance. Over time, traditional culture and artists have faced numerous challenges, making it imperative to recognize and support local artists and artisans who have greatly contributed to society.

Goa's cultural landscape is vibrant, encompassing various dance forms, traditional music, crafts, and visual arts. The Kala Samman Scheme emerged in response to the plight of Goan artists grappling with modernization and contemporary art forms that rapidly overshadow traditional practices. By providing essential resources, the scheme aims to honor these artists and ensure that their cultural traditions remain alive.

Objectives of the Scheme:

The Kala Samman Scheme has several key objectives.

1. Financial Support for Artists in Need: The primary aim is to provide financial assistance to artists experiencing financial hardship. This support ensures that skilled artists, who may struggle to make a living, receive aid to maintain their dignity and security.

2. Monthly Financial Assistance: The scheme offers monthly financial support to eligible artists, helping them meet their daily needs. This consistent assistance acknowledges the challenges faced by artists in precarious financial situations.
