IS THE ZODIAC KILLER REAL?

For nearly six decades, the identity of the elusive Zodiac Killer has remained a mystery, his taunting messages and ciphers helping publicise the infamous murders.

However, some have started to ask if he is even real. And if he isn't, who is the actual murderer? The notorious killer came to the spotlight during the late 1960s after he began sending cryptograms and puzzles to the police and local media. This followed a spate of homicides going unsolved in California's Bay Area.

While police were unable to decipher the messages at the time, it's thought he was responsible for the deaths of at least five people between 1968 and 1969, including Betty Lou Jensen, David Faraday and Darlene Ferrin.He has never been found.

While it's not known who started the theory, English professor Thomas Horan believes the cryptic writer wasn't connected to the killings at all, that is, if he even exists...

In the Myth of the Zodiac Killer documentary, Thomas says he believes the letters were written by a copycat, with the actual crimes committed by multiple killers.

DISAPPEARANCE OF NICOLA BULLEY

On January 27, 2023, Nicola Bulley, a 45-year-old mortgage adviser, vanished while walking her dog along a river near her Lancashire home in North West England.

Her body was found in the water two weeks later. An inquest later found she had accidentally slipped into the river and drowned.

The case attracted the attention of social media and conspiracy theories surrounding her death soon went viral.

TikTokers and YouTubers took to their platforms to spruik wild ideas, including suggestions that Nicola had been abducted or faked her own death. People even travelled for hours to visit the site where she disappeared, posing for selfies along the riverbank.
