However, the ability to accept yourself, your hardships, and your icky situation are one of the most important skills you should learn. Acceptance doesn't mean that you are happy with everything that is going on. It means that you can see things for what they are and learn to live with what you have. The first thing to understand is to realize that everyone is different. There is no single definition of what is perfect. And there is no single path to becoming this idealized person you are visualizing.
Accepting the reality of your life often sounds easy. But it's not. This is because many people hold to a fancy version of reality. The reasons for this is based on regret, disappointment, denial, etc. Or endless waiting for something better like a promotion, enough money, kids to be settled, etc. Failing to accept your reality is what destroys peace of mind. So, it's better to give up the fictional dream version of your life and gradually learn to accept yourself, who you are, what your limitations are, and the reality of where you live. In many cases, the place you live decides what you can or cannot do. Even if your situation is terrible, learning to acknowledge it is the first step to soothing your mind.
