JIMMY THELIN praised Pape Habib Gueye for taking his chance and reviving his flagging Aberdeen career as Bojan Miovski heads for the exit door.
The Senegalese striker failed to make an impact under Barry Robson and Neil Warnock but he is now getting the opportunity under the Swede.
Gueye, back from a loan spell at Kristiansund, sent Aberdeen on the way with his first goal for the club before strikes from Jamie McGrath and Vicente Besuijen continued Thelin's 100 per cent record.
Gueye has stepped up as Miovski looks to have said an emotional farewell to Pittodrie after the final whistle. Thelin said: "Even if he didn't score I think the confidence is there. He trains hard and can play in different positions. I'm really happy with the timing on the corner and the goal he scored.
"It was important for us in that moment. I like the way every player is coming in and taking responsibility. It's a good sign."
St Mirren levelled just before halftime but were undone by defensive lapses.
Thelin was pleased with his side who are already ahead of Hearts, Hibs, St Mirren and Kilmarnock and top of the league along with Celtic.
The Dons boss added: "It was a lot of emotions and a lot of good feelings. We started strong and then let them score in the last seconds of the first half. It can be difficult but the players were calm and we found a way to win.
"I'm really happy for the players and the supporters and to see the strong team spirit.
