A MUM has hailed hero air ambulance paramedics for saving her son's life after he accidentally swallowed a £2 coin.

Nicolle Chapman said without Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and its crew, Riley, eight, might have died.

"I thought I was going to lose my little boy - I've never been so scared in all my life," she said.

During a visit to his gran's house in Rothienorman, Aberdeenshire, Riley's aunt was teaching him to toss coins when he looked up and it went into his mouth and slid down his windpipe.

Riley turned purple and was struggling to breathe after swallowing it in shock instead of spitting it out.

Nicolle said: "We used the Heimlich manoeuvre on him and he said he had swallowed it completely and asked for a drink.
