Turkey protesters defiant despite tear gas crackdown

- CHRIS HUGHES

SEAT OF POWER

ANTI-GOVERNMENT protesters in Turkey held firm as police used tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to quell the unrest.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets following the jailing of presidential hopeful Ekrem Imamoglu.

Huge crowds gathered outside Istanbul's city hall in the country's biggest anti-government rally in years.

Police have arrested more than 1100 protesters and authorities yesterday detained at least eight journalists.
