WE DIDN'T GET THE HOSPITAL WE EXPECTED

THE medical director of a health board has told a public inquiry that the newly-built flagship hospital at the centre of infection concerns was not "what we expected".

The Scottish Hospitals Inquiry yesterday heard evidence from Dr Jennifer Armstrong, the medical director of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which runs the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus in Glasgow.

The inquiry is examining the construction of the QEUH campus, which includes the Royal Hospital for Children, after deaths linked to infections.

Construction of the £842million campus began in 2011 and it received patients from April 2015.

Dr Armstrong told the inquiry: "I thought we were getting a fantastic hospital, because we've been working so long for this, but we did not get what we expected."
