Yacht tragedy captain in manslaughter probe

THE captain of the superyacht that sank in a tornado killing seven people has been grilled twice as part of a probe which could result in manslaughter or even homicide charges.

James Cutfield was questioned for two hours on Sunday, the second time he has been quizzed in a week.

The New Zealand-born skipper was in charge of the £30million Bayesian when it was battered by a tornado off Porticello in Sicily and sank.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among those who drowned.

Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said that while the yacht had been hit by a “very sudden meteorological event”, it was “plausible that crimes of multiple manslaughter and causing a shipwreck through negligence had been committed”.
