DM orders probe; cops conduct flag march

A tense calm shrouded Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, a day after clashes broke out between local residents opposing a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque and security personnel that claimed four lives, with the district police conducting a flag march in affected areas and the district magistrate ordering a magisterial probe into the Sunday violence.

Following the incident, the district administration imposed restrictions on the "entry of outsiders, social organisations, and public representatives" into Sambhal without prior authorisation and suspended mobile internet services citing prevailing law-and-order situation.
