MASON Greenwood will leave Manchester United by mutual agreement after an internal investigation into his conduct. 

The 21-year-old England player was arrested in January last year following allegations surrounding material published online.

He was charged in October with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

But charges were dropped in February this year after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.

United chief Richard Arnold said yesterday that the alleged victim had asked police to drop their investigation in April last year, and the club had received alternative explanations for the material posted online.

He added: “While I am satisfied Mason didn’t commit the acts he was charged with, [he] has accepted he has made mistakes which he takes responsibility for.”
