CAB grab €5.2m from crims in 2022..a rise of €2m on previous year

THE Criminal Assets Bureau seized almost €5.2million in assets and cash from gangland thugs last year - an increase of over €2million from 2021.

The items recovered include jewellery, houses, cars and designer goods.

The figures have been released by Justice Minister Helen McEntee, in response to a parliamentary question from Fianna Fail TD Jennifer Murnane O'Connor.

It means almost €106m worth of assets and cash has been seized by the CAB over the past decade.

Minister McEntee also revealed how just under €8m has been returned to the Exchequer since 2021 as a result of CAB seizures.

"All monies seized by CAB are remitted to the central fund of the Exchequer after the appropriate statutory time frame under the Proceeds of Crime Acts," she said.

"Currently seven years must elapse from date of seizure to remittance to the Exchequer.
