PASSENGERS on the Great Western main line to Plymouth and Cornwall have faced months of misery and disruption, prompting a heated debate in Parliament among MPs.
Several MPs from the South West joined the debate on Tuesday and highlighted the importance of the rail link for their constituencies and the local economy. They also praised the Government for investing in the network and supporting various projects to improve connectivity and capacity.
Cheilyn Mackrory, the Conservative MP for Truro and Falmouth, said that she and her constituents had experienced unreliability on GWR's longer-haul services, and called for any additional support for the rail lines. However, she also acknowledged the improvements that had been made to the railways since 2019.
