Despite many games in the next sets going to deuce, Sean and Simon got the important points. On a critical point in the tie-break Sean told Simon to reel it in a little and drop his serve to 80% per-cent, so Simon served a Novak Djokovic special with at least 110 per-cent pace that won the set!
In their second match of the week, Lester and Richard started slowly when they played Steve Matcham and Dave Gale and lost the first set 6-0. However, they came out a lot stronger in the second with Lester serving well and putting away many volleys. Steve and Dave played catch up all through the set but managed to clinch the tie-break. The final set saw Dave and Steve play better and went on to win overall 6-0, 6-5, 6-1.
It was a tight first set when Jon Jacobs and Ross Bunney faced James Driscoll and Mark Skerton with Jon and Ross taking it.
James and Mark then went into a 4-1 lead but Ross and Jon came back taking it to a tie-break where Ross and Jon went into a 5-0 lead, but James and Mark came back to 5-4 and then after a 30 shot rally, it went to 5-5 but then Ross and Jon just won it 7-5.
The competitiveness carried into the third set where it went to a tie-break and just finished before the lights went off. Jon and Ross won 6-4, 6-5, 6-5.
John Putman and sub John Abraham started well against Dave Gale and Steve Matcham and with John P's high quality volleying, and John A's good serving, they led all the way through the first set.
Dave and Steve hung in and eventually won the tie-break. The remaining sets went to Dave and Steve, but the rallies were close and the game scores aren't reflected in the final set scores. Dave and Steve won 6-5, 6-0, 6-0.
Jon Jacobs and Ross Bunney played a second time against John Putman and Tim Gibbard. The first set could have gone either way, but John and Tim took it 7-4 in the tiebreak.
