Mercer stresses record of service since election

JOHNNY Mercer told a campaign team of more than 30 volunteers that he was proud of his record as an MP for Plymouth Moor View and would continue to put ‘country before party’, as he launched his campaign for re-election.

Mr Mercer won the Plymouth Moor View seat for the Conservatives in 2015, and was re-elected two years later with an increased majority. Launching his campaign at Tamar View Community Centre, in Barne Barton, the Conservative candidate said he has twice given up his seat at the Cabinet table ‘out of principle’.

He said Labour were ‘throwing everything’ at the Plymouth Moor View seat, but added: “Despite all of this, I am still yet to meet one person on the doors who thinks Keir Starmer will make a great Prime Minister.”

He continued: “The question we need to put to voters ahead of the next election is this – who do you want to represent you locally? The choice is clear. I have proven that I will always put country before party. I have given up my seat at the Cabinet table twice out of principle.
