Tough schedule takes its toll as Patriots are beat

Saturday night had a distinct festival vibe with the home team Patriots celebrating their 100th game since being established in 2021. Their opponents in the BBL Trophy were the Surrey Scorchers who, like the Patriots, were unbeaten in the competition following a win against Sheffield last week.

The two teams would be closely matched throughout the tie, neither side wanting to give up their immaculate start to 2024 and despite the Patriots having the better of the opening exchanges, the scores remained close throughout the first half.

A war of attrition then ensued, as both teams kicked things up a notch, adding a physical element to the mix and as the game entered the latter stages, it was still unclear who would take the spoils.
