Whittaker staying is arguably Argyle's best transfer business

PLYMOUTH Argyle look to have recruited some exciting young English prospects on loan for the final three months of the Championship campaign in Ashley Phillips, Darko Gyabi, Alfie Devine and Lino Sousa.

The Pilgrims have also added the experience of 32-year-old Adam Forshaw to be a senior professional at Home Park alongside club captain Joe Edwards, and Matty Sorinola is a player they can look to develop this term and beyond.

However, the best piece of business Argyle did during the winter transfer window, and with the greatest respect nothing else came close to it, was keeping Morgan Whittaker.

All January there was a speculation about interest in the talented 23-year-old from Premier League sides Brentford, Fulham and West Ham United, as well as Italian side Atalanta.

In the end, it was Atalanta's Serie A rivals Lazio who made an offer for Whittaker, the scorer of 16 goals this season, with reports in Italy suggesting it was 10 million euro - around £8.5m but that was dismissed out of hand by Argyle.
