SCHOOLS were shut and parts of Devon and Cornwall turned white as the first snow of winter arrived yesterday, with the region under a Met Office snow and ice warning.
Ivybridge had heavy snow showers and residents woke up to see their town covered in white, which led schools to close for the day – and photographers to head out to capture picturesque conditions.
With the Met Office having predicted snow over high ground, it duly arrived yesterday morning.
Ivybridge Community College was partially closed, meaning it was only open to certain year groups, while Holbeton Primary School was fully closed to pupils.
Rural schools including Cornwood Primary School and Shaugh Prior Primary School also announced their closure and urged parents and pupils to stay home and keep warm.
However, it was not a day off for all pupils, who instead were expected to take part in ‘remote learning’.
