Prosecution sanction against Ram Rahim in sacrilege cases okayed

DAYS after the Supreme Court vacated a stay on the prosecution of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government on Tuesday gave the prosecution sanction for the controversial sect head in three sacrilege cases of 2015.

Prosecution sanction against Ram Rahim in sacrilege cases okayed

These cases caused outrage among the Sikh community which led to protests, clashes with the police and subsequently death of two protesters in police firing.

The state government had moved the Supreme Court seeking vacation of the stay by the Punjab and Haryana High Court which had paused proceedings in three criminal cases related to the incidents in March this year.
