PARIS TRANSFORMS INTO A CITY FOR ALL

The City of Paris has positioned itself as a leader in accessibility and inclusion, backed by a significant investment of over €125 million to transform the French capital into a more inclusive city. These initiatives are set to benefit both its residents and the millions of tourists who visit each year.

Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), lauded these efforts, calling them an “inclusion revolution” that has made Paris more accessible than ever before. “Today, Paris is more accessible and inclusive than at any time in its rich history,” Parsons noted, emphasising the profound impact on the city’s 185,000 residents with disabilities, as well as its many visitors.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, Paris has made significant investments to increase the participation of people with disabilities in sport. More than €10 million has been allocated to improve the accessibility of six major sports facilities, including the historic Georges Vallerey swimming pool and the Pierre de Coubertin stadium. These improvements are part of a wider effort to build a strong foundation for Para sport in Paris.

Pierre Rabadan, Deputy Mayor of Paris responsible for Sport, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Lamia El Aaraje, Deputy Mayor responsible for Urbanism, Accessibility, and Persons with Disabilities, alongside IPC President Andrew Parsons, have highlighted key accessibility initiatives transforming the city. These include the development of 17 Enhanced Accessibility Neighbourhoods, ensuring key public services are within a 15-minute walk, revamped transport infrastructure with accessible bus and tram lines, and the introduction of 1,000 accessible taxis.
