From battling a life-threatening disease at the tender age of nine to scaling new heights as a champion climber, Shivani’s story is one of resilience, determination, and unparalleled courage.
Shivani, a name synonymous with triumph, has not only conquered the challenges of cancer but has also emerged as a shining star in the challenging sport of climbing. This article explores Shivani’s remarkable achievements, her struggles, and her aspirations for the future.
The Battle Against Cancer
The Charak family faced an unimaginable ordeal when nine-year-old Shivani was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2009. Despite the gravity of her illness, Shivani’s parents chose to shield her from the harsh reality, keeping the diagnosis a secret. Regular trips from Jammu to Chandigarh for chemotherapy became a routine, with Shivani blissfully unaware of the severity of her condition.
In a heartening revelation, Shivani reflects on those challenging times, stating, Shivani reveals, “At the tender age of 9, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2009. Initially, the gravity of my illness escaped my awareness. My parents chose not to disclose the diagnosis of cancer to me. I have one elder sister and two younger twin brothers. Regularly, my parents would take me from Jammu to Chandigarh for chemotherapy. This decision was rooted in the belief that divulging the details of my illness to my brothers might heighten their anxiety. Instead, my parents informed them that I was undergoing treatment in Chandigarh for kidney stones.”
The atmosphere in the hospital, surrounded by other children battling cancer, served as a stark reminder of her fortunate position.
