Bone health might be something we don't give much thought to, but it's worth considering. As hormones change through perimenopause and menopause, we lose oestrogen. That can impact bone density and increase our risk of bone loss and osteoporosis.

It's not all bad news, though. There are various steps you can take to protect your bones. And, while it's normal to have some bone loss as you get older, trying to slow it down is a good aim.

If you could only make one change to protect your bones, what should it be?

According to Julia Thompson, Osteoporosis Specialist Nurse Manager at the Royal Osteoporosis Society, it's all about staying active. Not only is it good for general health, it's beneficial for bones, too.

"Imagine a scale," says Julia. "At one end is someone having complete bed rest, at the other is a professional athlete.
