Welcoming houseplants into your home is an easy way to add style, colour and a calming vibe. Not only do plants create a verdant oasis, with leaf shapes in pleasing shapes and textures, they bring other benefits too, such as lifting our mood and sharpening concentration. Plus, they can filter pollutants from the air and raise humidity, combating the effects of dry air.

Tumbling jungle

Nail that rainforest feel with plants that, in their wild habitat, trail from tree nooks or scramble from the jungle floor up to the light. Let them tumble from hanging baskets and lofty shelves, or coax around a mossy pole and along wall hooks to dramatic effect.

* Satin pothos (Scindapsus pictus*)

Has velvety, applegreen leaves flecked with silver. Likes bright, indirect light.

* String of hearts (Ceropegia linearis)

Forms a curtain of tiny, mottled, heart-shaped leaves on thin stems. Needs bright light but not full sun.
