પ્લાસ્ટિક આજના જમાનામાં ખૂબ ઉપયોગી પુરવાર થતું હોવા છતાં તે પર્યાવરણ માટે ખૂબ નુકસાનકારક છે. તે સડતું ન હોવાના કારણે તેનો નાશ ન થવો મુશ્કેલ છે. પ્લાસ્ટિકના કારણે હવામાં કાર્બનનું પ્રમાણ વધે છે. વર્ષોનાં વર્ષો સુધી તેનો નાશ થતો ન હોવાના કારણે તે બહુ સહેલાઈથી જમીન, પાણી અને હવામાં ભળીને પ્રદૂષણ વધારે છે. ત્યારે પ્લાસ્ટિકના કચરાને રિસાઇકલ કરીને તેની વિવિધ ઉપયોગી વસ્તુ બનાવીને લાંબો સમય સુધી તેનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકાય છે. આમ પ્રદૂષણનું પ્રમાણ ઘટાડી શકાય છે અને વિવિધ વસ્તુ બનાવવા માટે અનેક લોકોને રોજગારી પણ આપી શકાય છે. આથી જ કહી શકાય કે પ્લાસ્ટિકનો કચરો પણ ઉપયોગી બની શકે છે.
