Urban parks are an increasingly popular concept that has revitalized the main townships of Colombo. The revival schemes implemented in and around Colombo not only improve the visual image of the city but provides much needed space for recreation. Efforts are taken to energise the city atmosphere whilst addressing concerns of safety and accessibility. Issues such as rain water drainage and seasonal floods are also tackled through increased water retention capacities of wetland parks and newly dredged reservoirs.

The clients’ request to Archt Damith Premathilake was a calm and tranquil house with ample privacy along with security on their 26 perch land at Mahara close to the Kandy-Colombo Road.

“The creation of a design is subsequent the client needs to be studied first,” says Archt Sudesh Nanayakkara. He believes that the client’s personality should be reflected in the design.

Within the wilderness of Induruwa, Art of minimalism came to life as Archt Russell Dandeniya designed this simple holiday home fusing elegance with the surrounding picturesque landscape.

Archt Moses designed a transparent facade to merge with the idyllic lake and its surrounding arboreal landscape, resulting in a uniquely enchanting spa.

Surrounded by the verdant mountains of Gampola, the Mount Havana Boutique Villa retains the aura of its past amidst its newly refurbished façade.

The holiday resort, ‘Laya Safari’ at Palatupana, Yala owned and managed by the Sri Lanka Army, in the deep southern wild, borders the Yala National Sanctuary. Facing the rolling waves of the Indian Ocean to the South, this is the first of the Army’s cabana-type star class resorts.

Jungle Beach Resort is a unique Resort on the East Coast which drew its entire concept and character from its physical context. Located in the Tourism Development Zone in Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee this 48 key Resort was a design-built project by International Construction Consortium with Studio ViVeGe as the Architects.
