Act In Advance, Don't Wait Around
Cage & Aviary Birds|February 7, 2018

In this new series of articles aimed at novices, IAN WRIGHT, KEVIN McCALLUM and NORMAN WALLACE provide tips for the 2018 breeding season based on their knowledge of breeding and exhibiting a range of canary varieties. First up is NORMAN WALLACE.

Act In Advance, Don't Wait Around

CANARIES

WHEN I look over the articles that I have written over the past 30 years and more, the basics of good canary husbandry has been the focus of many. This replication of information has to be considered when we are welcoming new fanciers into the fold at any given time.

It is with mild depression that when I have reviewed articles from 10 and 20 years ago (it seems less), the same themes arise. Yet this has to be because good husbandry and the basics are timeless. Any new fancier needs to be aware of sound principles, and even the experienced birdkeeper needs to revisit basics and ensure compliance is maintained. This series is about the need for continual implementation.
