Oh, my word, we can finally get a dog!” – those were my first words to my boyfriend the day we bought our house. Long before I thought about beds or a fridge or anything else that needed to fill up our home, the first thing I thought about was our little fur-baby.

We’d always discussed adopting a dog – we’d both grown up with animals in our homes and we knew that as soon as we had a place for ourselves, we’d want to give a rescue dog a home. Deciding where we wanted to adopt from was actually really easy. We’ve visited and supported many shelters and SPCAs over the years, but the one that held a special place in our heart and was the site of many, many weekend volunteer sessions, was Dogtown.
