Tips and tricks for a healthy mane and tail
Horsey Hair Care

Everybody wants their horse to have long, luscious locks, but achieving and maintaining these can be quite a lot of work. To strive towards the length and lustre that you are looking for, check out these tips to get your horse’s mane and tail looking their best.

SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER

The first point to note is that washing your horse’s hair more frequently is not necessarily a good thing. Your horse’s hair produces oils that keep it shiny and healthy, and over-washing strips away those oils, which can leave the hair looking dull and cause it to break more easily. Having said this, a good wash every now and then is going to be necessary, in most instances, but the trick is to make sure that you are washing the hair correctly.

When it comes to shampooing, it is best to opt for a sulphate-free shampoo that contains more natural ingredients. Sulphates strip the hair and really dry it out, so a sulphate-free option is best. In terms of the process itself, make sure that you really scrub at the base of the mane and tail, where the hair grows, to break up and dirt, oil and debris, and to stimulate the hair follicles there.
