I find my building aesthetically very pleasing, one of three sister structures separated by two gardens. Dating from 1925 and situated just north of Washington Square, between the East and West Villages, each has an attractive lobby in New York baronial style, with double-height apartments (oh, how I always coveted one!) and Juliet balconies.
When I first arrived in New York I lived in the West Village, and after a brief and somewhat lonely sojourn in Sutton Place, I returned to this area about 12 years ago. It's lively, with the New York University campus around the square, giving it that dynamic energy that young people bring. The former owner of my apartment was a distinguished literary agent who had lived here since the 1950s.
