Ensuring that a custom motorcycle will comfortably chew up the miles is perhaps not always one of the main priorities for every builder, but for anyone in the National Chopper Club, it’s essential. Never more so than when you happen to live in one of the far flung parts of this island which means that you’ve usually got a journey to do before you even start going anywhere, as Paul, NCC National Secretary and member of Chopper Club Kernow, knows all too well. This is the story of his latest chop.

“The original bike arrived in my garage as a Harley FXR hardtail chop. That sounds okay, but it was actually in need of a complete makeover because the frame tubes were too small and the lines were all wrong. Basically, it meant I had to start all over again!

“To get the right lines that I wanted and with which I would be happy would mean fitting a long case primary so that was what I did, sourcing a complete new primary and spacer gear, plus gearbox, from Will Burrows Motorcycles up in Preston, Lancashire. While I was at it, I gave Will a shopping list which included a set of 8-inch overstock forks and a bigger back wheel, all of which duly arrived.
