When darkness falls, it’s usually time to stop racing and head for the bar. Not if you’re racing in the Malachi
Comp safaris (racing against the clock in Land Rovers, for those unfamiliar with the sport), are enduringly popular with drivers and spectators alike. One of the harder endurance races of the year was Lincolnshire Land Rover Club’s 20th Malachi (pronounced mal-ak-eye) at Wickenby Airfield near Market Rasen. The race was spread over 25 hours, with day-and-night runs of a two-mile course.
Clerk of the course, Matt Elvin set out a very traditional comp, with RTV-style bumpy bits linked together with fast straights on the airfield’s old runways, where speeds were reaching 60mph.
