I’ve lost track of how many VW specialists I’ve visited across the UK to interview, take photos and produce magazine features from, both air and water cooled - and some who work on both. And the owners of these companies have a variety of backgrounds which has led them to where there are today. However the background to the owner of BUGerd VWs in Wiltshire - Luke May - was a new one on me. In fact it’s not even to do with cars. Having left college he spent the next 8 years working on trains - especially repairing and servicing brakes and suspension on them. He had been planning to become a car mechanic, but this job appeared out of nowhere and it looked a bit different but would use many of the same skills he already had, albeit working with bigger ramps and tools ! “ Yes everything is on a much larger scale when you are working on trains,” confirmed Luke, but it’s pretty much the same if you use The Force.

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
