Erik and Tiffany from The Orange County Transport Organisation picked us up in his blue double cab split. This is just one of his amazing collection. What a great start! He drove us straight over to meet the guys at Wolfsburg West. The company headquarters in Corona stocks over 6,000 parts. We were introduced to Rich who was happy to show us around the workshop.
If you want to see everything for yourself, there’s even a Youtube video tour. We spent the rest of the day checking out some local sites, like ‘the top of the world’ where the air was so still and wow, so incredibly hot. From there we travelled to Balboa Island using the comically short, 800 foot crossing on a small ferry. The service began back in 1919 and it actually saves a lot of time since the alternative is a six mile drive from Newport Beach.
We spent the evening enjoying the hospitality of the local Goat Hill tavern. The bar is filled with a collection of oddities and rarities and claims to have 141 draught beers. You can’t say that they don’t have one you like.
Two weeks was never going to be long enough for all the things we wanted to pack in, the days were rushing past us so quickly!

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.

We’d wanted a splitscreen bus for years. And first got the bug, after hiring one for a holiday in Cornwall in 2009.
