We live in interesting times. To understand why we need to rewind the clock a bit. In the late 90s or even early 2000s, the term ‘SUV’ invoked a very different image from what it does now. At the time, an SUV was simply a big four-door utility vehicle that could drive over all kinds of terrain without breaking a sweat. Cut to the present, and the term has taken on a whole new meaning. When you talk about an SUV now, you generally have to use a prefix like Compact or Mid-size. It might seem a tad bit normal for those in their teens right now, but if you were born in the 90s, then you have seen this genre of cars become what they are today in front of your very own eyes. Think about 10 or 15 years back, and would you have imagined the word SUV having such a diverse meaning today?
Thankfully, the auto industry realised in time that our city centres and metropolitans would soon be cluttered, and therefore, to stay relevant, the ‘SUV’ would have to adapt to the changing environment. It would have to be repackaged in a way so that it continues to offer the essence of an SUV but in a size that is more suitable for the new-age urban metropolis. And, not to mention, it should also be packed with the latest technologies and features.
