MarriottHotels is reimagining the business travellers’ experience by curating original events, arranging creative meetings and disseminating relevant content for their future forward guests.
When TED fellow and French-Japanese inventor, Cesar Jung-Harada took to stage at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, speaking about his work that revolves around harnessing the forces of nature to develop innovative remedies for manmade problems such as oil spills, behind him, a huge digital map of the world charted his journey across the globe. A part of Marriott Hotels’ global partnership with TED, this event was the fourth in a series of TED Salons held at the flagship brand’s hotels in Seattle, London and Abu Dhabi, since the partnership was inked last year. This edition had the theme of how travel sparks a new wave of thinking. Jung-Harada was followed by Bangalore-based Indian multimedia artist Aparna Rao, one part of the artist duo Pors & Rao, who create socially poignant and quirky electro-mechanical systems and interactive installations. And then Matilda Ho, the owner of a Shanghai-based online farmers’ market, Yimishiji, took the mic. She spoke about using silk worms as a source of protein to tackle poor culinary habits which were contributing to China’s growing diabetes and obesity epidemic.
