MobilityOne is going global
The commercialisation of the world wide web in 1995 brought about the dotcom boom in the 1990s. It was also in 1995 that Jeff Bezos launched Amazon.com, kick starting the shift of brick and mortar retail shops to online platforms. This was just the beginning of what was to become a whole new way of life.
Today, eCommerce has become a buzzword thrown around by companies looking to cash in on the booming market of online shopping. Behind every virtual shop that pops up online lies an integrated system of digital technology .
eCommerce comprises three core components that are integral to providing customers with a smooth experience: the marketplace, the payment and the logistics. MobilityOne falls into the payment space and has been building its expertise in that area for the past 15 years.
Dato’ Hussian A. Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of MobilityOne Sdn Bhd, was inspired by the government’s vision when he decided to embark in a business to power the backbone of eCommerce.
In its early days back in 2002, Cyberjaya was already growing aggressively, complementing the government’s push for infrastructure, especially in laying fibre optics nationwide. The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) initiative was well under way and projects were put in place to ensure Malaysia was on track to reach its potential of being a digitally developed nation.
VISIONARY A DECADE AHEAD
First starting in the prepaid reload business, Hussian soon saw a bigger vision. “We were doing system integrations, but it is not a long-term business. I saw the opportunity in eCommerce and took it,” he says.
Not everyone shared the same vision, however. “15 years ago, not many people had that vision, because a lot of things had to be done in the country, especially in telecommunications coverage, mobile adoption, as well as networks.”
