Between 2000 and 2019, Indonesia’s GDP has been growing between 3.6% to 6.3%. In 2019, the country recorded a GDP growth of 5.0%, double the world average GDP growth of 2.5%. The current administration remains focused on driving progress with healthcare and education as key areas of focus – healthcare expenditure as a percentage of GDP has increased from 1.9% to 2.9% in 2019 and has been relatively consistent for the last five years. That said, changing demographics have seen the strain of a double disease (communicable and non-communicable illnesses) burden on the range of healthcare services needed in Indonesia.
