Amid ongoing reports of tyre technicians being seriously injured or killed at the roadside during work, it is encouraging that employers in the tyre market sector are investing heavily in the REACT Training programme which helps their fitters stay safe when changing a vehicle tyre at a busy road side

Life has never been easy for mobile tyre technicians in Europe who have to basically risk their lives every time they attend a commercial vehicle breakdown on Europe’s fast moving and increasingly busy Motorways and Autobahns. It is definitely a thankless and dangerous task out in all weathers and at any time of the day or night and very often having to work uncomfortably close to traffic at high speeds and that has no regard for anyone working on the hard shoulder.

REACT Accreditation Scheme

The facts speak for themselves as, during the last ten years, ongoing reports of tyre technicians being seriously injured or killed at the roadside has become a disturbingly frequent occurrence which is why it is encouraging to learn that the current Roadside Emergency Action Concerning Technicians (REACT) Accreditation Scheme, which was established in 2011, continues to gain momentum.

So far, over 4,000 tyre technicians have registered with the NTDA (National Tyre Dealers Association) who support the Scheme and been expertly trained and eventually assessed as competent enough to be issued with a special Licence to Work Safely at the Roadside across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
