What MasterChef Singapore’s judges Bjorn Shen, Damian D’Silva and Audra Morrice think of the “crispy rendang” controversy.
So, the judges for the Singapore iteration of the MasterChef franchise has been confirmed. They are (from left, above): Damian D’Silva, executive chef of Eurasian-Peranakan restaurant Folklore, Audra Morrice, former MasterChef Asia judge and Bjorn Shen, chef-owner of Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant Artichoke.
Filming for the eight-episode series began a week ago — the show will air on September 2, on Channel 5. MasterChef was born in Britain in 1990, where amateur cooks compete for the title in a high-pressure setting. Its most famous celebrity chef judge to date is the acerbic Gordon Ramsay. There have since been many spin-offs of the show, including MasterChef Asia, the latter filmed in 2015 and whose winner was Singaporean Woo Wai Leong, 29.
The Singapore series is produced by Beach House Pictures, the production company behind shows like Asia’s Next Top Model Season 3. A press statement issued by Mediacorp said: “The nationwide casting call for contestants which has closed, saw an overwhelming response from people representing different races and from all walks of life to participate”.
