Pavail Gulati started off learning acting under Naseeruddin Shah in Whistling Woods International. He was so impressed by the thespian that he joined theatre afterwards and did plays with Naseer. But you need money to survive in Mumbai and that led him to become a casting assistant to Shanoo Sharma. “I was the casting assistant for My Name Is Khan," he informs. Afterwards, I assisted Seher Latif and Mukesh Chhabra. My experience as a casting assistant taught me what's working in the market and helped me mould myself better in accordance with the demands of the filmmakers," he reveals.
His big acting break came with Anurag Kashyap directed TV series Yudh. Anurag was impressed enough with his work to offer him a part in Ghost Stories. And recommended him to Anubhav Sinha for Thappad as well. “I have a good equation with casting directors Karan Mali and Nandini Shrikant. They called me to audition for a role opposite Taapsee. I was to go to London for Ghost Stories and a day before my flight I auditioned for it. During the Istanbul layover, I checked my phone and there were some 25 missed calls from Karan, Nandini and Anurag sir. I called Anurag sir first and he said Anubhav sir has liked my audition and even he himself has seen it and wants me to do the film. He said I shouldn't worry about the Ghost Stories schedule as he'll take care of it,” gushes Pavail.
