FORMER President Bill Clinton was just 60 minutes from death as docs battled to save him from a rampaging secret illness during his recent hospital stay initially triggered by a urinary tract infection, sources reveal.
America’s 42nd top dog was in California to speak about the scandal-scarred Clinton Foundation when he took a turn for the worse and was rushed to the intensive care unit at the University California Irvine Medical Center.
The 75-year-old was first diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, but then stunned doctors discovered sepsis — an often fatal condition where an infection spreads to the bloodstream, explodes “out of control” and triggers an immune response that savages organs and can end in cardiac arrest.
Doctors tried to downplay the severity of his illness, insisting he was only treated in the hospital’s ICU due to concern for his privacy and safety.
But New Jersey rheumatologist-immunologist Dr. Robert Lahita says: “In someone his age you can die very quickly from sepsis” and suggests the commander in chief could have been “sicker than they let on.”
